Quality academic advising is an important component of achieving educational success in college. A college advisor can help you get into and stay in college.
Academic and career advisors provide the following:
Students with 30 or less college credits
The Professional Advising Center (PAC) is staffed by four full-time professional advisors who assist students in scheduling and registering for classes. The Advisors are available each weekday by walk-in or appointment. Students are assigned to the PAC when they are first admitted to the college. Students will remain with their PAC advisor until they successfully complete 30 or more credits.
Students with more than 30 college credits
After a student attains 30 college credits, it is beneficial for them to be seen by an advisor that actually resides in the academic division of their major. These advisors are knowledgeable about their career fields, special requirements of the career and other information that a generalist advisor might not have available. Students will be transferred to an academic division advisor at the 30 credit mark.
Beginning with the 2017-18 academic year, students will also have access to DegreeWorks. DegreeWorks in an electronic software program residing on the college OLSIS system that helps students track certification or degree requirements. Students have 24/7 access to this program and it will allow them to understand their educational program requirements to keep abreast of completed and still needed courses for degree completion.
In addition to tracking students’ current majors, students are also able to do “what if” scenarios to determine what is needed to complete other academic programs of study at the college.
